BLB Solicitors have this week achieved an excellent settlement for a client who had been effectively written off by her former solicitors.
The lady, who is in her early-40's, developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) Type 1, otherwise known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD), following an accident at work.
She had previously been represented by a firm of solicitors who advised her to accept an offer from the Defendant of £5,000. Fortunately, she did not accept their advice and contacted BLB Solicitors, who specialise in claims involving chronic pain.
Richard Lowes, a partner at BLB Solicitors said "quite frankly, the previous solicitors were out of their depth. They new nothing about the condition itself and were relying upon wholly inadequate medical evidence."
"We referred her immediately to a respected specialist in the condition. He thought that she may benefit from treatment and we arranged funding for her to undergo the treatment privately. The treatment was partially successful, although she is still left with a significant level of symptoms which, in particular, affect her ability to work. This has left her with a reduced income."
Once her future prognosis was clear, BLB Solicitors were able to properly value her past and future losses and negotiate a fair settlement. She will receive £220,000.
"By using a solicitor who is a recognised specialist", said Richard, "the insurance company are more inclined to treat the claim with respect and to be more realistic when it comes to settlement negotiations".
